Smart Ultimate in Huck o Hunyo 2015

One of the teams that participated in Huck O Hunyo 2015 for the first time is Manila's very own Smart Ultimate. A team compose of young professionals who worked for this giant telecommunication company, Smart Ultimate, led by their playing coach, Felix Angue, showed the other participating teams in the tournament that with great teamwork, patience, determination, character, and knowledge about ultimate Frisbee will win games. They fought valiantly against the speedy, high-flying teams from Visayas and managed to reach the number four spot. I personally had a great time covering their games last weekend. They are one of those teams in the Philippine Ultimate community, that no matter what the outcome of the game in the end, you will still see those smiles on their faces, enjoying the rest of the experience with high Spirit, and learning in the process to become a better team. - Don

Smart Ultimate player Suzy Belizario wrote something about their experience here in Iloilo city last weekend:

Suzy Belizario

Excitement. Thrill. Eagerness. Fear of failure.

Competitiveness. Exhilaration.  These are a few things we

felt upon entering the Savannah City Football Field. For

our first ever Huck-O-Hunyo tournament, we can say that

it was definitely worth it.

If there’s something we learned during the 2-day

tournament experience, we saw what Smart Ultimate is

capable of doing. Our team flew to Iloilo knowing that the

provincial teams we’ll be competing against will be a big
challenge to us.

In spite of our training and game preparations, we knew

that it will always be different on the field. But with

determination, hard work, minds and hearts set to the

game, we performed well and reached semi-finals.

Unfortunately, we fell short by 1 point for that crucial

game, but then again it’s not always about winning. It’s

about learning from every experience and working hard to

be stronger physically, mentally, individually and as a

team. We played our hearts out, and went through

tough games we wanted to play. Just like what Coach Felix

told us, we went there for the challenge and not just for
winning.

Every game in the tournament will be a learning experience

for us. Though we did not reach podium finish, we

fought hard, had fun, finished strong and proved to

ourselves that we are capable of so much more than what

we imagined. This, to me, is the most important lesson we’ll

bring with us to make us even better. - Suzy Belizario

Thank you, Suzy! And We hope to see you soon again on the fields!

Until then.... More images to share. More stories to tell.
