Shindig El Clasico United 2015
12 days of good food and great company? An Ultimate life, indeed.

The 2015 edition of Ultimate Shindig was definitely one for the history books. To describe it briefly, there were 32 two teams, 2 amazing weekends, 2 fantastic championship games and 5 nights of epic partying. On top of the tourney, I've had the pleasure of enjoying great food, meeting friendly locals and enjoying the laid back environment with so much less traffic.What else could you ask for? Dumaguete is definitely a haven for most of us who live in a big city.
During this year's trip, I spent a total of 12 days in Dumaguete. I didn't have much time to check out some beaches and other cool places around Dumzville because I spent a lot of time editing photos, resting during the day or partying with the locals almost every night in bars and in the famous Payag sa Likod. Still, I had a blast. The food trips were definitely a big part of the amazing 12 days - Nevas, The Mafiosos, Taco Surf, and La Bella to name a few. All these restaurants are now definitely at the top of my list. But, the Chicken wings at CT Burger, Tempura ni Bossing, the inasal at ACSAT, that local Lechon Manok, the ice candy at Caltex, that very cheap but delicious Shawarma and of course that one lunch in Payag where we had Paklay and tons of mangoes and bagoong are collectively my favorite. And, Kyra's homemade Ice cream... To die for! Food trips are always fun, especially when you're with a bunch of laid back Ultimate Frisbee players. But, there was one food joint that I haven't tried yet in Dumaguete. Oh, I am coming for you Lord Byron's! I will see you in October!

Two of the best things in big tournaments that I like the most are hanging out with old friends and meeting new people. I remember, during the WCBU days, I spent a lot of time with the Dragons and the rest of the Philippine team and eventually became good friends with most of them. My 12 days in Dumaguete was no different. I saw my Brotha, Doi Mariano, the Sacapano siblings, the Batralo family (Hi Zoila!), and the legendary Dragons Datu, Jude, Panoy, Jeffrey and PaoPao. I also spent time with local celebrities like Dada, Chubby, JJ and of course the ever supportive Tita Christine Pasigna. Being with these folks always meant I’d be having a great time, especially when in Dumaguete. After the first weekend of Shindig, I met with a few more amazing bunch of young folks and spent most of our time eating, hanging out at Payag, eating some more, taking naps at the blue room and having more "Vegetables" while appreciating the Ultimate life that we are all experiencing right now. To Abby, Jordan, Noynoy, and Wilson to name a few, you made my twelve-day Dumaguete trip all worth it. Thank you.

The games. There were A LOT of great games during the two-weekend tournament; Great highlights, fun environment and lots of mud. I personally had an awesome time taking photos of the games. I was shooting under the heat of the sun or trying to get a good shot under the pouring rain. I captured photos under all kinds of weather conditions in a span of two weekends. I had wet socks in the morning and sunburnt skin in the afternoon.
I T W A S A M A Z I N G!
Everything was great during the two Shindig weekends. However, it would have been greater if the Shindig El Clasico United 2015 was, you know.... "UNITED". It would have also been great if there was only one Shindig tournament. It would have been nice if everyone agreed on something and made it a one big event of the year. It would have been greater if all 32 teams (plus much bigger teams) played together in one weekend. If there was only one Ultimate Shindig, we all could have put justice to the one thing that we all stand for - THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME. The event lost the SOTG the moment they decided to have two Shindigs this year. I love the organizers of both tournaments but it’s just so sad to see this happening to the beautiful city of Dumaguete. This is just my own honest opinion. I am just a photographer but I want to share what I felt and observed. I also hope that no one will get offended by this.
Shindig is one of my favorite tournaments that I like going to. I hope that after all this; we could finally bury all the bad things that happened this year. Move on and make Shindig 2016 bigger than ever!

ReplyDeletenot to the disappointments playing with team from Dumaguete, Superbad calls, dirty play I mean of course we make badcalls and lapses but I am amazed by the level of consistency. desperation consumed the SOTG but the overall event is still sweet
