SWASH BEACH ULTIMATE 2016

It was actually quite nice to witness a mini beach tournament with no other reason behind it but to have fun. Yes, the friendly competition is there, but it was all about the camaraderie and oneness last Thursday, February 25, 2016.

Six teams composed of 10 players  gathered together in Anhawan Beach Resort in Oton, Iloilo City for the first ever Swash Beach Ultimate. Most players were from the city and provinces of Iloilo, and I believe I spotted one (or two) kids from Boracay. It only shows that the interest in Ultimate Frisbee is getting better in the city. From seasoned veterans (They don't want to be called as the cranky old dudes, they're the "experienced" ones, they said) to the rookies of IUPA, they showed that Ultimate Frisbee can still be played like how people played the game ten years ago...

It's all about having fun.

No MVP's. No Mythical 4. Not even a trophy for the Champion team.  But you know what? They all still showed up at the venue, played their scheduled games with huge smiles on their faces, and enjoyed the holiday with their ultimate friends. The best part? Seeing some very familiar faces who left the game for quite some time, and now they are back playing alongside the young bucks of the community. It was actually quite nice seeing them again.

It was a beautiful day filled with laughter and a few bottles of Liquid Gold. Lot's of hugs and tears when the sun finally sets. Probably because they missed each other or maybe the Liquid Gold told them to do so. Either way, everyone went home happy.
I guess in the end, It's not always about the competition that is important. It's not always about  who has the greatest plays or the best team of the tournament. As long as everyone is having a wonderful time, enjoying each others company; I think everyone is going to be okay with that.
Congratulations, Iloilo Ultimate Players Association (IUPA) most especially to the core group led by Sheilamar "Joy-joy" Gascon who made this one day tournament a success. It was a lot of fun.

Until then. More stories to tell. More Images to share. It's All About U!
