If you are traveling from Bacolod city, all you need is a three-hour ride from the South Bus Terminal. But if you came from Cebu city, a two-hour bus ride from the city to Toledo and approximately another hour of FastCat boat trip is just enough to get you to this quiet city of San Carlos.  And yes, they have a Jollibee in the area. The service was a little slower than in other cities, but the chicken tastes the same as what the customers told us.  The hot and steamy Salvaro bread that tastes like a combination of Pandesal and bibingka was perfect with a cup of Kape Barako in the morning, freshly brewed from one of the tindahan in San Carlos public market. Add a couple hundred of Ultimate players from Visayas and Mindanao who are itching to play even when Typhoon Urduja was planning to spoil the fun on the first day. The rain never stopped, but the games continued on like we were in Baguio city. It was a cold and misty day with a few touches of pine trees in the background. Dadi's Cup 2017 in San Carlos City has finally arrived and Daddy David Libo-on has found a Gem in San Carlos City.

We sure do have a lot of familiar faces who came in San Carlos city to give their support to the youngest member of the community, but the star of the weekend was the playing fields that the city of San Carlos provided us. Located at the center of the city, the playing fields near the bishop palace was well maintained, healthy green grass and yes, they can provide at least 6 to 8 Ultimate pitches in the area. San Carlos city is a football country. Big Soccer tournaments are being held in San Carlos every year, and The Askalz are always having their regular training in these fields. Football is life in SC, and you gotta have to have beautiful playing fields if football is the city's number one sport. But last weekend was all about the white plastic discs and cool team names like Rainbow Monkeys. The city that was once full of soccer balls and soccer moms was ruled by Ultimate kids that love to fly high the whole day and budots the night away in the after party.  The tricycle drivers and the local business owners did not mind the craziness of the community, as long as business was flourishing last weekend. So, the fun-filled weekend continues.

Typhoon Urduja took its toll as some of the players didn't make it cross in time for the tournament. But there was this one team who risked it all to rent a small pump boat just to cross the waters from Toledo to San Carlos. Though they were only seven out of 21 players (together with a few players from Dipolog, Cebu, and Iligan)  who took the risk, they still managed to arrive in SC safe and sound. They even played well and reached the quarterfinal rounds on Day 2. Team Isorropia were the risk takers of the tournament. What they did was dangerous if you ask me, but then I realized that sometimes you just have to take the risk for the things and the people you love. Talk about love for the sport and the community.

The sun finally showed up in Day 2 of Dadi's Cup and so did the up and coming stars of the provinces, and the not so new players that weren't given the chance to spread their wings up to this day. Players like Gio of Iloilo, Kulot of Cebu city and Bao of Bais City who played the game for some years now, showed their dominance all throughout the weekend for their respective teams. Their hard work, passion, and dedication all these years paid off and they were one of the reasons why Team Ringers (Gio) and Fasa Fuego (Kulot) came in with the best records in the tournament and went on to battle it out in the final game of this years Dadi's Cup. Rainbow Monkeys (Bao) went on to play in the battle for third against Team Brgy. Daro.  The youngins didn't back down either, Angel Callao of Team Brgy. Daro, CM Absin of Team Ringers and Coreen Villanueva of Rainbow Monkeys showed everyone how strong the Negros Women's team when you put them all together and work as a team. Give them a few more years, and I can guarantee that they will be taking names in the future.

The Ringers and Fasa Fuego gave us a show for the last time in Dadi's Cup 2017 Championship game. As expected, Bruno, Oyok, Paloy, and Kulot together with Apple, Cheska and Nadine leading the Fasa Fuego army, undefeated coming in to the finals was a force to be reckoned with, but Team Ringers composed of players from Dumaguete, Mati-Davao, Iloilo, Iligan, Cebu and other parts of the universe was also up for the challenge. With a line of Dada, Isoy, Alex Canonizado, Gio Golez, HG Villarin, CM Absin and Mimi Balancar hoisting the banner of the Ringers, the Championship game was full of Great defensive plays and high flying battle from every corner of the pitch. It was a lot of fun that even AAU FB Live streamer and Disc Sanction player, Chelsea Reyes of Dipolog City couldn't stop from screaming her lungs out every time there's a great play happening right before her eyes. In the end, Team Ringers won the trophy for the 2017 edition of Dadi's Cup.

Dadi's Cup 2017 was a simple celebration and pasalamat from our beloved local Apparel Trident Active Lifestyle together with Agile Gear; one of the major sponsors of the tournament. Trident and Agile Gear has been serving the community for years now, providing us with some quality apparels and giving sponsorships to deserving provincial players in the country without even asking anything in return.  As for Daddy, he worked hard for this tournament to push through. With the help of his closest friends and Ultimate families, Daddy still has the swagger to make your weekend fun. Even Urduja cant stop this young man from dancing the night away. Congratulations, Dad!

Dadi's Cup was a perfect way to give back to the community for Daddy and Trident. And for us in AAU, it was also a perfect way to close the busy shooting season... A weekend with a few Brados and new found friends.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!
