Tarsier Ultimate 5: There's a First Time For Everything

6:12 PM All About U 0 Comments

Tarsier Ultimate was a first time for me and AAU in many ways. It was the first time that AAU covered two tourneys in one weekend. Don went to cover Sugar 6 in Ormoc, while I went on to cover Tarsier 5. It’s my first time cover a tourney by myself, so i was kind of anxious in a way but Don helped me and guided me along that i got comfortable as the days went on. It was great also that Beryl and the Mohawks were very organised that things were so easy. From communications to logistics to the chill captains' meeting at "Just Sizzling", to covering the tourney itself.

Day 1 started as intense and hot as the morning sun. Early morning highlights came fast, but in game bloopers also showed the it was indeed the first day.

Many familiar teams (Ucube, Uranus, Mohawks, Tarsier Ultimate, MaUt, and many others) were there but those that caught my attention the most were the only team from luzon, the Manila Tarsiers and the young guns of Bohol, the Mercenaries. Whose players were mostly high schoolers.

The tourney was only a two day affair so games went on till 8 pm for day 1. As the dust of nonstop battles settled, the host Mohawks, and Cebuano team Ulmigas came out as victors of the day.

Morning of day 2 passed by fast. G-spot and Mohawks emerged as the last standing teams after beating Ulmigas and Uranus in the semis, respectively.

The championship game was close at first but the host team got ahead and never looked back as they passed along the frisbee efficiently. Those veteran players of Mohawks were careful and steady, but the impressive plays of, Ikong and Beglat gave them the spark they needed to take home the bacon.

Winners or not, players were excited for this year’s Tarsier Ultimate Socials! The manila tarsiers were excited enough that after their last game they rushed the area where the socials will be held, the beautiful Alona beach in Panglao. Players came to Ubar -the venue, early so the drinks also flowed early. It was one of the most fun awarding I had ever experienced in my one year of shooting ultimate. Fun host, fire dances, as usual fun people being crazy for the night! I really admire how the Mohawks pulled it off, the party after the awarding was even crazier! everyone's grooving with the music that some tourists joined in, but things went crazier when Nicole of G-spot took over the DJ's booth. I was like a mini Shindig crossed with mini Boracay Open party!

Next morning, while some players are still partying in thier dreams at Bohol Divers Resort, the Trident reps -Dada and Mariano; Agile Gear guys -Val, and gang; Bobet and friends; and I are in for another treat! Balikasag Island! it was beautiful! Beryl, Jordan, Dave, Jake, Don Bencel and the Rest of the Mohawks family did a great job organising Tarsier Ultimate 5. A really great job indeed!

To quote Don,

Until then,

More stories to tell...
