Boon Rockstar Cup 2017: It's more than just the Stars

Aldwin Ibanez already made history when he and E.R.I.C. founder, Jim Gerenscer assembled an All-Star U.S. Mixed Team  to participate in a showcase game against the best players of the Philippines back in 2015. Not only that, he also invited Club Jr. Japan to play against Team E.R.I.C. and to participate in Manila Spirits that year, Making the 2015 Spirits, the biggest and the most exciting Manila Spirits to date.

Year 2017. With months (or maybe a year) of planning and preparation, Aldwin and his crew of young and hardworking individuals, Boon Technical Clothing again made something Special for his beloved Philippine Ultimate Community. Bringing in some of the best Ultimate players in the world, mixed them up with the best players in the country; Boon assembled one of the greatest OPEN teams we have ever seen and witnessed in the Philippine soil. Boon Rockstar Cup was definitely Rockin last March 4 and 5, 2017.

Jimmy Mickle and Kurt Gibson of the United States together with Japan's Masahiro Matsuno and Takanori Furuzawa, and Australia's lone warrior, Tom "Cupcake" Tullet headlining the star studded weekend at The Villages in Clark, Pampanga. With Xtian Guerrero, Dada Libo-on, Butchok Onlayao, Popoy Pascua and Bolantoy Francisco to name a few in one team together with our five new foreign friends, Team Boon Rockstar was unstoppable all throughout the weekend. Though they sure do have a slight challenging game versus the Korean Open team in the semis,  but the gods who bleed in the early stage of the battle knows how to bounced back..... hard.

The Women's division on the other hand was also filled with great talents from around the globe. I have been a big supporter of women's ultimate, and seeing these teams growing and improving every time that I am on the sidelines covering their games made me think, that single gender tournament is the way to go. It is the right format for everyone to improve their game and to show what they got on the field. The womens games were more intense and exciting as expected. Probably because of the well balanced roster of the eight teams that participated in the tournament. Even during the semifinals, we did not know who will win. But after the hard fought games, International team Black Widow and the Orange Women of Sunken Pleasure went for the final showdown in the womens division. The Boon Rockstars went on to show their dominance for the last time against the Heads of State of Australia, the Juggernauts.

Both championship games were blowouts as the Always Hungry, Black Widows and the Rockstars of Boon Technical Clothing one sidedly put on a show.

But after all the excitement and epic plays that the Rockstars had blessed us all weekend long, John "Jolas" Larracas described the weekend perfectly.

Reunion.

The feeling of being together with old friends and meeting new acquaintances, having a laugh over a few bottles of Tanduay Select in one area that only you and the rest of the Boon Rockstar participants are allowed to stay for the rest of the night. Though everyone was so tired and busy all throughout the day, still you have the time to stay up late for a couple more hours to chit chat with your long lost friend from another country. Or find a couple foreign players sitting around their villas not doing anything, but you happen to have a few bottles of beer left, and you invite them for a drink or two and enjoy each others company, til you all don't know what you guys are talking about....

Reunion. Camaraderie. Friendship. Spirit. Love. Family.

Whatever you call it. I think Aldwin, Jolas and the rest of the Boon Crew made another epic History to remember.

Until then... More images to share. More stories to tell.... It's All About U!
