Seven On The Line: WCBU 2017
There were a lot of great moments that happened on and off the field of Royan during the recently concluded WCBU 2017. Lots of Highs and Lows. Lots of Good stuff and more Great stuff. But if you were to ask me, here are the top 7 moments that really caught my attention all throughout the week.

The Opening Parade.
We haven't started any action on the fields yet, but the WCBU opening parade itself was already a huge highlight for me. Seeing all the participating countries all in one place getting pumped for the opening. Carrying their countries colors with smiles on their faces... It was beautiful to see the whole world united.
Are we seeing a new healthy rivalry here?
They already met in Dubai once, and Great Britain (GB) won that round. This time, they went for it again... Twice.
Team Pilipinas and GB faced off in the early stage of the tournament. And it was a battle right from the first pull. With the phenomenal performances of the Bone Brothers and the Dragon Veterans, Team Pilipinas threw the first punch to seal the victory. On Day 5, they battled it out in the Semifinal round. Again, it was an intense game off the bat. This time, The Dragons fell from the hands of the Brits. As you can see, it seems like there is a trend happening here. It looks like we have a healthy rivalry going on with these two great teams. The Question is, who will throw the next punch when they see each other again? We shall see in the next four years.
Less Height, Bigger Hearts.
In every sport that we participated in, Filipinos always have the height disadvantage. Ultimate is no exemption. Most of the teams use their height advantage to win games. Filipinos use their hearts to win battles. It's a Filipino thing... PUSO(Heart).
Russia Wins Gold.
Russia Women National Team patiently crawled their way back up from the pit of losing the 2017 WCBU Women's Final against team USA. For the second straight World Championships, Russia and the US faced each other in the Gold Medal game. This time, The Sasha Pustovaia led team won the trophy and went home to their country with gold medals around their necks.
Still a dominant force on sand.
Though the Women's team lost to Russia, Team USA as a whole showed that they are still dominant as ever in the world of Ultimate. May it be Grass or Sand, The US of A are still a great force to reckon with. There are some other countries that gave them a run for their money here and there, but the Americans always have an answer to every situation.
Pirates Over Team USA.
Team Pilipinas Mixed put on a huge upset victory on their Crossover game as the Boracay Pirates defeated Team USA. Down by six (8-2), the Mixed team led by Bolantoy, Botchok and PaoPao carried the whole team on their backs, and charged their way to score 7 straight points to win the game in universe. This game marked as one of the greatest games and epic comebacks that came out from the 2017 edition of WCBU.
Royan, France.
This next highlight is personal. After WCBU Dubai last 2015, I never really thought that I will be able to do this again. Never in my life that I thought that I will be able to go to Europe. But with the help of Five Ultimate and the hundreds of friends in the Ultimate Community who chipped in, I can finally check Europe off my bucket list. It only shows that if you have a dream and you can't do it by yourself to make that dream a reality... All you got to do is ask. And you will get your answers. Do not underestimate the power of the Ultimate Community. This trip was for all of you.
