How About that Special Meal

So, how was it? how did that adobo sa gata taste? I think it’s safe to say that everybody wants more.

Our ladies and men showed some high level ultimate to say the least. Clean offense. Smooth line of Bolantoy, Gabbey, Pao Peralta, Jam, ‘Master’ Lanz, April, Quijune (now known as QJ), and Lala; some strong tight D; and converting those turned possessions definitely made the big difference.

In times of need, their arsenal of big plays did not shy out as well. Crucial Defensive stops –won’t forget to mention some Ninja level Ds, yes Poy I’m talking about you. Some big stops from our rookie ladies, Bagul, Angelli and Caren. Master even had a Callahan. Red zone Defenses are solid as well. Some well oiled operations of Dongi, Kaptian X, and Junie. Tya Bey showed how intuitive as a defender she is.  Carl –who was calm on converting the Ds; Mr. songerist and crowd pleaser Barak; Sara G and Moi –these two ladies have so much potential; Mr. revelation, Fe-lipe; and the new breed Nonoy Sacapaño –this guy is a new gen daredevil, showed some 'rookie' nerves but always found ways to recover and convert them D's anyway.

No dish is perfect, so errors and mishaps are not surprising but the most important thing is that everybody got everyone’s back when they missed a step –yes Dong, we remember that you got skied on [:D]. As what Kap X always says, Everybody is behind us even when we make mistakes, the most important thing we recognize them and try our best not to repeat them.

Many may wonder how could these athletes gel together even when they came from all over the archipelago of Maharlika [Philippines]? It’s definitely the bootcamp. Two and a half  weekends –one was on a Tuesday, of banging each other Camel-style, made them tougher, quicker and most importantly, smarter.

From a bunch of hyped personalities trying to prove their worth sometimes to moments of injury scares, these ladies and men developed into a one cohesive ‘Ultimate’ machine. Although what really made them understand and see each other eye to eye, were the bondings –group chat, bootcamp, eat out, road trips and being housed together. These people are bonded for life, having spent some time together and having similar experiences of fatigue and glory on the bootcamps made them a family.

As I see it, having a program that is ‘free’ of restrictions also helped them to be more responsible of themselves and each other. Seeing one’s strength and weaknesses in different aspect, not just in the games but also outside the four corners of the playing pitch. Although I think those random games of cards are the secret condiment of this team –I wonder who took home the biggest pot.

In conclusion, I would say that the process, not just the ingredients makes a great dish. I wonder what our cooks –Pilipinas Ultimate core and PFDA, are planning for our future outings.

We'll see, we'll see. I can't wait for 2023!
